What is Picotronic about?
In our shop, you can quickly and easily purchase our affordable lasers. Picotronic caters to industrial and medical needs. All products come from the same house and are tested to the same standards.
Why are your modules so affordable?
We don't run expensive advertisements, we have an efficient inventory management system, and we know the laser market very well. Additionally, we produce in large quantities and pass on the cost benefits of bulk pricing to you.
Are there differences between red, green, and blue? Or do they just look nice?
The different wavelengths have distinct physical properties. Green lasers are best perceived by the human eye and are used wherever the human eye serves as a detector. They also offer small divergence angles and very good beam profiles, meaning at greater distances, the spot is smaller than a comparable red one.
Red lasers have the advantage in image processing and detection with digital cameras, as cameras have higher sensitivity in the red and infrared wavelength range.
The blue lasers complement our laser range. They are suitable for school experiments and trials.
I have a red laser. Can I change it to green with filters?
You cannot use filters to change colors like with light bulbs on lasers. Laser light emits only one color, unlike light bulbs, so you can't use color filters to cut out certain color areas.
What does "fixed focus" and "focusable" mean for you?
Lasers with fixed focus have the smallest possible spot size or line thickness only at the specified working distance. The beam widens before and after the focus. The focusable modules can be focused from about 5cm to several meters.
Can you see the laser beam on your modules?
Without aids, you can hardly see the laser beam itself. Only the projected line, cross, or point. In complete darkness, the beam from green lasers can be seen from 5-10mW.
My laser projects a blurry line/cross. Is it broken?
Probably not. Do you have a focused module or a freely focusable laser? Pay attention to the correct working distance. Fixed focus means the line is minimally thin only at this distance. With focusable lasers, the focus can be adjusted to the desired distance by turning the optics.
How do I wire the laser? Do I need special plugs and power sources?
Pay attention to the specified supply voltage. Many modules operate at 3V DC. You could use standard AA batteries as a power supply or connect a ready-made battery pack. Otherwise, all lasers are delivered ready to connect and only need to be connected to the correct power supply. Also, pay attention to the correct polarity. Information can be found in the respective data sheet.
What protection class do your lasers have?
It depends on the laser module. We try to achieve at least IP54 with our modules. If you want precise information about your laser, you can simply call us.
My green laser takes a few minutes to reach full power.
Is this normal?
Give the laser a minute, and it should be running at its full output power. Ambient temperature and humidity can affect the warm-up phase. If the laser has not reached full power even after 3 minutes, we should take a closer look at the module.
I found a laser in your shop. How far does it shine?
This depends on external light conditions. In the dark, you will surely recognize the spot better than in daylight at the same distance.
As a rule of thumb: (650nm daylight, Dot): 1mW = 10m range (650nm daylight, Line): 1mW = 0.3m range (532nm daylight, Dot): 1mW = 100m range (532nm daylight, Line): 1mW = 1m range
I want to project my spot onto a distant wall. What should I consider?
Of course, safety! Mark the beam entry with a warning sign or the supplied warning sticker. Attach this to the laser beam exit. No one knows that a laser is in operation.
What are the light conditions? Ambient light can significantly reduce visibility. Keep in mind that the spot or line thickness will be larger at 10m than at 1m.
If you still want good visibility and a possibly smaller spot, we recommend our green 532nm laser modules.
How can I mount the laser on my circular saw?
We offer solid aluminum mounts for all laser diameters. Compact, adjustable, and easy to mount.
I want to integrate a laser into my setup, but I don't know how.
If you're unsure about integrating into your system, we can provide tips. Whether additional optical or mechanical components are needed, we'll find a solution together. A small sketch, a photo, or a description can quickly help us further.
I'm looking for a laser for a clean cut with my circular saw.
For this purpose, we can offer you the plug-ready LH650-16(16x90)-NT-MOUNT. The mount and power supply are included in the set. The module has proven itself thousands of times and is also used professionally.
Are the lasers waterproof?
We cannot guarantee 100% waterproofing, but they do offer slight protection against splash water.
Can you engrave or burn with your modules?
No. We do not offer lasers in these power classes.
635nm and 650nm, both red! But why are there price differences?
The price difference is explained by the more complex manufacturing of 635nm semiconductor lasers. An important difference is visual perception. The human eye is about twice as sensitive at 635nm as at 650nm. This simply means: Less power with the same visibility and therefore lower risk.
And where is the difference between green and red now?
Green lasers are always used when you want to perceive the beam with the eye and need high visibility and contrast ratio. The human eye has its greatest sensitivity in the green spectral range. Due to the physical properties and construction of green lasers, they have better beam qualities and can be more finely focused.
How safe are your lasers?
Our modules and diodes are constantly checked and certified in-house by trained personnel. We have been working closely with our suppliers for many years and know we can rely on their expertise. Nonetheless, we inspect every laser ourselves. An absolute obligation is a 100% inspection of all goods. No laser leaves the house untested. Lasers from gray imports are not allowed in our bag.
Who checks your lasers?
We do it ourselves! Not because we don't trust anyone else, but because it's the only way to guarantee that what's stated on the label is inside. We strictly test according to EU guidelines and current standards. Our quality assurance consists of a four-eye principle so that no mistake goes unnoticed.
What should I keep in mind when handling my laser?
In principle, it's important to say: Lasers are not toys! and should be considered as potentially dangerous as a knife. The risk comes from handling them. Follow the safety advice and be aware of what you're doing, and the risk is minimized. Always keep your surroundings in mind and inform others that you are using a laser. For class 1, 1M, 2, 2M lasers, nothing further needs to be considered.
Is my laser dangerous to the eyes?
Any laser above class 1 poses a risk to the eyes. Most lasers we sell to you have low outputs and fall into laser classes 1, 1M, 2, 2M, and partly 3R and 3B. You don't need to fear being blinded immediately if you are dazzled by a reflection. Always be careful and never look directly and intentionally into the beam!
The scattered light of my laser on my workpiece is very bright.
Can my eyes be injured?
Most of our lasers are too weak for direct danger. However, distance and ambient light should be considered.
The greater the distance of the eyes from the laser point or line, the lower the danger. Try to adjust the ambient light. If the work area is too dark, the pupil enlarges, letting more light onto the retina. If you are still unsure, we are happy to provide comprehensive advice on safe laser handling.
Do I need laser safety goggles for work?
And can I get them from you too?
We do not stock laser safety goggles in our range. However, we are happy to advise you on the purchase and make recommendations for your application. Safety glasses and protective clothing are not mandatory for laser classes 1 and 2.
For laser classes 3 and 4, you should obtain specific information about your laser.
Am I required to install warning notices?
For laser classes 1 and 2, no additional warning notices are required. For lasers over class 2, warning notices are mandatory. Stick the supplied warning notice on the laser's exit to mark it. All lasers are delivered with a warning notice by default. Nonetheless, it's not harmful to put up additional warning notices. The work area for class 3 and 4 lasers must be clearly marked.
How are the laser classes indicated and measured?
We adhere to the prescribed standards and take a close look at new modules. Here you can find more information on laser safety: More information on laser safety.
I need a declaration of conformity. Where can I get it?
We can issue a certificate for each laser. Just give us a call.
I found a laser in the shop, but a specific parameter doesn't fit!
No problem at all. In 95% of cases, we can find an individual solution with you. Perhaps your desired module is already in stock. We cannot display all products in our online shops. Call us with questions, we'll find a solution! Alternatively, you can use our laser finder to search for a suitable product according to your specifications. If there is no suitable module, you can immediately send all selected parameters to one of our sales representatives.
Do I have to register my module with an authority?
Laser classes 1, 1M, 2, and 2M do not require registration. Classes 3, 3R, 3B, and 4 must be reported to the trade association if used commercially. If you are unsure, call us, we are happy to advise.
How quickly can you deliver? And what if an item is not available?
Almost all products we carry in the shop are in large quantities on-site and can be shipped the same day. If a laser is sold out, more stock will be available in a few days. In the worst case, reproduction takes 4 weeks but this rarely happens. If we need to specially manufacture a product for you, delivery times must be determined accordingly, but usually range between 4-5 weeks.
I have a very special request. Can you accommodate it?
Contact us. We try to fulfill every request.
I am interested in DOEs, but there isn't anything I could use. Is there a possibility of creating something custom?
We have been working with a good partner for a long time here as well. Send us a sketch and the boundary data, and we'll see what can be done.
How and where can your products be purchased?
Here in the shop and on Amazon. Orders can also be placed by email, fax, telephone, mail, or in person. We only need the item designation, quantity, and your contact details.
My laser is broken. What should I do?
Never try to open the laser and attempt to repair it yourself! Electrical discharges in the module can lead to light flashes from the diode. The interior of lasers is far more boring than you might think.
What if my laser gets dirty?
The lens can be cleaned with microfiber or spectacle cleaning cloths. If liquids or dirt get into the laser, you should not clean it yourself. Laser diodes are very sensitive to electrostatic discharge.
How can I dispose of old batteries?
Either in specially designated disposal bins or you can return the old batteries to us. We are legally obligated to accept old batteries:
